SHILLONG: Leader of Opposition, Conrad K Sangma visited the flood-affected areas in Namabila, Shilkata, Horipur and other adjoining villages in West Garo Hills District recently. The flood affected these villages, where close to one thousand households were displaced and approximately over three hundred households were submerged in water.

During his visit, he had met the affected families. Sangma provided these villagers over fifteen boats and constructed over thirty latrines for the villagers as immediate and temporary solutions.

The Leader of Opposition had also urged the Chief Secretary and Deputy Commissioner, West Garo Hills to look into the matter with utmost importance and immediate relief measures like drinking water, food, medicine and shelter be provided to the families of the flood affected areas at the earliest, to make sure that they received all the help and co-operation from the government. Authorities feared an epidemic once the floodwaters recede if precautions are not taken.
