Cachar and Karimganj districts have been under section 144 CrPC for past few days. No reports of any violence were reported so far from any part of the Barak Valley.

Violence broke out on Wednesday at some places in the valley during a bandh call by the Hindu Jagran Manch and supported by the BJP, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Hindu Milan Manch, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha and some other outfits.

The ‘bandh’ had been called against alleged harassment of innocent people in the name of search operations to arrest those responsible for the assault on Congress MLA Rumi Nath and her second husband Jacky Zakir last Friday at a hotel in Karimganj.
