Agartala: Food Corporation of India (FCI) Chairman cum Managing Director Siraj Hossain is scheduled to review the situation of flood-hit disconnected northeastern states on Friday in Guwahati.
According to report, railway connectivity in Southern parts of Assam, Tripura, Mizoram and parts of Manipur have been disrupted over past ten days due to landslides in North Cachar Hills region of Assam.
Besides petroleum products, supply of essential commodity including onion, cereal produces, potato, rice, wheat and sugar have been affected in most of the northeastern states because of incessant rain and flood situation in Assam.
“Civil supplies department officials have reviewed the market situation and price index of essential commodities yesterday with the merchant organisation and issued warning not to hike the price unnecessarily,” said state Civil Supplies Minister Manik Dey here on Thursday.
He however, pointed out that the administration had strict surveillance in the market on regular basis and monitoring mechanism was further strengthen following irregular arrival of goods vehicles in the state.
Mr Dey maintained that the government had already asked for fuel induction through roadways after supplies through rail route got disrupted on June 26 due to landslide but the stock of all the essential commodities were still at manageable condition.
Regarding LPG crisis, he said it will take some time, besides raid is being conducted against illegal LPG hoarders.
He also informed that today 21 LPG domestic cylinders have been recovered from different hotels and restaurants.
He informed that it will take about a month to restore services in Lumding- Badarpur hill section particularly in the 80 km stretch from Harangajao to Malbong and Haflong to Harangajao.
Meantime, Member of Parliament Khagen Das recently met Union Petroleum Minister Jaipal Reddy and requested him to look into the matter of ongoing crisis of cooking gas cylinders in Tripura that started a few months back.
Mr Dey sharply criticised the railway authority for not taking adequate measure to avoid landslips.
“They (NFR) had promised to take all precautionary measures so that landslips could not disrupt the rail link. But they did nothing leading to landslides in several spots in-between Lumding-Badarpur,” he said. (UNI)
