NONGSTOIN: Nongstoin police on Thursday recovered a vehicle (ML 06- 2096), which was stolen from Mairanf on June 15, from Seijlieh in Nongstoin.
Acting on an FIR lodged by the owner of the vehicle Nicholas Mawlieh of Mairang, police questioned a suspect Protersius Marwein, who confessed to the crime. It was Marwein who informed police that the vehicle was at Seijlieh in Nongstoin.
Accordingly, the Nongstoin Police Station raided a saw mill owned by the headman of Seijlieh and recovered the vehicle.
However, the vehicle had most of its parts missing. The engine of the vehicle was recovered from a vehicle belonging to the headman.
The police then took the headman — Pero Nongseij — into custody. The headman, however, claimed innocence.
Meanwhile, the villagers of Seijlieh alleged that the sons of the headman could be involved in this theft. Interestingly, the sons of the headman are, reportedly, absconding.
