Shillong: The KSU on Wednesday, served a one-week ultimatum to the state government to remove prominent city businessman Ramesh K Bawri from the post of Meghalaya State Consumers Dispute Redressal Forum Acting President failing of which the union would be compelled to resort to agitations to pressurize the government to response to their demand.

The KSU who rushed to the premises of the District Transport Officer (DTO) office here on Wednesday with an intention to stall down the office chamber of the acting president of the forum were however stopped by the police who stated that Bawri’s office was already locked.

Stating that that it is uncalled for the government to allow a person who himself is a businessman to head this body whose responsibility is to protect the rights of the consumers, the KSU has stated that “Allowing a businessman to hold the post would definitely create suspicion in the minds of the consumers about the credibility of this statutory body.” KSU Farmers and Consumer Protection Cell (F&CPC) chairman Peter Lawai said as per the Constitution of Redressal Agencies, the Govt should appoint any retired judge of High Court as the president of consumer dispute Redressal forum.
