SHILLONG: Three months after the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) has set up the Record Finding Sub-Committee, directing all the traditional chiefs to prepare the land documents pertaining to their Hima to ascertain encroachment of Assam in Meghalaya’s territory, the Committee on Wednesday has decided to submit its findings to the Council’s Boundary Committee.
Chairman of the Committee, also MDC of Rambrai, KP Pangniang, on Wednesday informed that the Committee has received the report of the findings which includes a map depicting the areas under Meghalaya which have been forcefully snatched by Assam. He said that the report would be forwarded to the Boundary Committee of the KHADC headed by the CEM for scrutiny, after which it would be forwarded to the State Government.
The Committee had asked several Hima and Sirdarship to prepare the land documents, but only Hima Mylliem and Hima Nongspung from East Khasi Hills, Hima Raidmynsaw from West Khasi Hills and Raid Marwet and Hima Nongwah from Ri-Bhoi, have submitted complete documents.
Other Hima, including Nongkhlaw and Khyriem and Sirdarship including Jyrngam, Riangsih and Nonglang are yet to submit the details.
“We have decided to extend the deadline by another ten days to allow all the Hima and Sirdarship to submit the documents, failing which the KHADC would be forced to take action against them,” Pangniang told reporters. (Contd on P-10)

(Contd from P-1) The Rambrai MDC also stated that even though the Committee has no authority to claim the land, yet it will scrutinise every document and send it to the Boundary Committee of the KHADC.
“The State Government only has the authority to reclaim the lost territory with the help of these documents and maps which are evidences to prove Meghalaya’s ownership of the said lands,” Pangniang said.
“The KHADC will send a letter to the Assam Government to immediately remove their Police Outposts from Khanapara, Raid Marwet, Mylliem Syiemship since the Council has ample evidences which prove that the said areas belong to Meghalaya.
“If the Assam Government fails to dismantle the police outposts, the KHADC will be compelled to go to the court,” Pangniang added.
Meanwhile, the Committee has also requested all the social organisations, individuals and land owners who possess documents to prove their ownership of the ‘disputed land’ along the border areas, to come forward and submit the same to the Committee.
