Developmental works at Barengapara

From Our Correspondent

TURA: In response to the statement made by the Garo Students’ Union (GSU) that construction of wayside amenities and various other developments at Barengapara, West Garo Hills were being delayed, the contractor working on the project said that the statement was misleading and made without proper verification.

The GSU, Dalu Unit had alleged that the Director of Tourism had issued a tender notice on May 2011 for the Development Circuit at Barengapara which was to be completed within 12 months from the date of allotment but even after a year, there was no sign of any construction taking place.

Stating that the GSU’s claims were baseless and unjustified, the contractor said that work on the project had started only from January this year. Adding another contradiction to the GSU’s allegations, the contractor said that the construction is very much on schedule and over 60 per cent of the work has been completed. Further clarifying on the matter, the contractor mentioned that, due to non-availability of land at the proper Barengapara tri-junction area, the department concerned allotted a site for the construction of the project at Dimapara, near Barengapara. The contractor also said that an amount of only Rs 7 lakh has been drawn from the Tourism Department till date even as over Rs 20 lakh has already been spent on the construction.
