EVM test: mock poll at Sohra

Shillong: Sohra has been selected once again to test the humidity resistance of the new improved Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) along with Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in a mock poll, official sources said on Thursday. The Election Commission would conduct the mock poll at Sohra in East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya and its surrounding areas on August 25 to check the efficiency of the new system in extreme weather conditions they said. VVPAT is a system attached to an EVM that allows a voter to verify that his/her vote was cast correctly. This mechanism would detect possible election fraud or malfunctioning of an EVM. (PTI)
