TURA: Despite the recent demand by the Achik Youth Welfare Organization (AYWO) and FKJGP to immediately post a regular Medical and Health Officer at the Tikrikilla PHC, only one doctor has been sent to the centre on a temporary basis till now.

Sources said that the new doctor, who was sent two weeks ago, is burdened with the responsibility of taking care of patients of the whole area single handedly.

The Tikrikilla PHC covers a population of almost 50,000 people and is also in dire need of a dental surgeon among others.

A resident of the area pointed out that in the recently declared MPSC results, 19 dental surgeons cleared out of which 10 have been appointed but the remaining nine are still on the waiting list. “Government is indifferent to the requirements of the PHCs in spite of availability of many doctors waiting for appointment,” he said.

Sources also informed that there are numerous PHCs and CHCs in Garo Hills which are in need of a doctor or additional ones. PHCs and CHCs like Mendi CHC, Mendal , Karkutta, Adokgre, Rari, Songsak, Jeldopara and Pedaldoba PHCs to name some are in genuine need of doctors.
