Mukul: Govt to continue efforts to neutralize GNLA

 SHILLONG: Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma on Wednesday reiterated that the State Government will continue its efforts to neutralize the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA).

Talking to media persons during the sideline of inaugurating the MYPC office here in the city, Mukul Sangma said, State police efforts are on to neutralize the organization.”

It may be mentioned that the State police on Monday arrested the GNLA chairman Champion Sangma from Umkrem, Pyrdiwah

According to Sangma, the interrogation of Champion Sangma is on while adding that the State Government would like to ensure that the State is free from militancy and insurgency.

According to Sangma, the Government is adopting a holistic approach to neutralize the insurgency in the state by addressing the root cause of the militancy.

“Instances have shown that unless we address the root cause, one organization mushrooms before one organization is neutralized,” he told reporters.

It may be mentioned that Champion Sangma has been remanded to 14 days police custody for interrogation.

Champion Sangma, the former Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) left the State police force and floated the militant outfit Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) in 2009 .
