Urine-drinking case
Shillong: The State police on Saturday suspended its training inspector for allegedly forcing two recruit constables to drink urine, an official said.
On August 5 training inspector Pradip Borah had allegedly asked three recruits to urinate in bottles and later forced the two recruits to consume it.
The unfortunate incident happened at the 2nd Meghalaya Police Battalion at Goeragre in West Garo Hills district during a roll-call in the presence of 600 recruit constables.
“The training inspector has been placed under suspension based on the preliminary findings,” Meghalaya DGP N Ramachandran said.
Home Minister H D R Lyngdoh said stern action will be taken against a training inspector of Meghalaya police if found guilty for allegedly forcing two recruit constables to drink urine
“This kind of inhuman punishment is unacceptable and stern action will be taken against the training inspector found guilty,” Mr Lyngdoh told UNI.
He said the Commandant of 2nd Meghalaya police battalion, N Rajamarthandan has initiated an inquiry into the case.
Meanwhile, the training inspector had temporarily replaced by another police instructor to train the new recruits constables of 6th battalion of Meghalaya police at Goeragre.
“The training instructor allegedly asked the two recruit constables to drink urine following a complaint of the mess commander on the scuffle between the two recruits and another recruit during lunch,” Dr Rajamarthandan said.
The Commandant said an inquiry had been initiated to probe the incident.
“The inquiry officer has collected information from all the five recruits on the incident besides an explanation notice was issued to the training instructor,” Dr Rajamarthandan said.
He said disciplinary action would be taken against the instructor if the allegations were proven right. (UNI)
