SHILLONG: After the body of one Mintu Devi (22) alias Pinky Rai was recovered from Sonapani on Friday last, the incident took a new turn after the deceased’s brother filed an FIR on Tuesday alleging foul play on part of the victim’s in-laws.

The brother, Pankaj Kumar, who hails from Bihar, alleged that his sister was harassed by her husband Pappu Rai and in-laws for failing to meet the dowry demand. “After her marriage with Rai, my sister was harassed by the relatives of the husband as we could not give a motor cycle as dowry,” Kumar said.

Mintu Devi was living with Rai (also from Bihar) at Lumjingsuk near Demthring with their two-year-old son, Bittu Kumar for the last three months.

According to Kumar, he was informed that his sister along with her son had gone missing from their residence on Friday last. Later on the same day, Kumar got a phone call informing that his sister’s body was found near a water body in Shillong.

Kumar said he arrived in Shillong on Sunday only to find that the last rites of his sister were carried out without his presence. “There is also no news about her son. I strongly suspect that they have hidden the child,” Kumar added.

Meanwhile, in another case, the police have not been able to make any breakthrough into the alleged murder of one Aidisitidora Sohtun (43) of Mawlai Mawdatbaki whose body was recovered from Mawkham tourist view point near Mawkajem village on Shillong-Dawki road on Friday last.

A constable in the Excise department, Sohtun had left home for office at East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner’s building on August 16.

According to police, the lady appeared to have been murdered gruesomely by unknown miscreants who dumped her body at Mawkham tourist view point. “The face was totally smashed which indicates that the gang had used stones to hit her,” sources said.

Sources informed that Sohtun, had visited her ailing friend at Wahingdoh while she was on her way to office on August 16. Meanwhile, a murder case has been registered at Pynursla police station regarding the same.
