NEEPCO mulls more investment in Tripura

 Agartala: The 104 MW Monarchak power plant would be operational by June 2013, said Chairman – cum- Managing Director (CMD) of North East Electrical Power Corporation (NEEPCO), PC Pankaj.

Pankaj who is on a whirlwind visit Tripura met Power Minister Manik Dey on Saturday and apprised him of the progress of Manarchak power plant.

Sources said, Pankaj requested Power Minister to arrange more natural gas for NEEPCO so that it could set up more gas-based power plant in the state.

Earlier, the NEEPCO head called on Chief Minister Manik Sarkar on Friday and made him aware about the work progress of Monarchak power project.

Sarkar assured him of rendering all possible help to the NEEPCO if they require implementing the project on schedule.

The CMD said he requested the Chief Minister to create pressure on ONGC and GAIL for providing gas so that the NEEPCO can start more projects in the state and also decided to set up a power unit at its Agartala Gas Thermal Project (AGTP) by using emitted gas from the existing units

Mr. Pankaj also informed that the turbine would be transported through the Assam- Agartala National High Way (NH-44).He further added that turbine will reach the project site by December this year.

The NEEPCO who arrived here on Sunday is scheduled to meet Power Minister Manik Dey on Monday.

It is expected that the Power Minister will request the NEEPCO authority to expedite the project which has already been got much delayed due to various reason.
