TURA: Police have arrested one Sukumar Dey of Purakhasia, West Garo Hills for allegedly molesting a mentally retarded girl of Chenggapara, Rangmangri, West Garo Hills.
According to a delayed report, Dey committed the crime on July 26 afternoon while the victim was returning home from a weekly market.
Following the incident, the parents of the girl informed the Chenggapara Mikpinpan Challenged Association (CMCA), an Association of differentlyabled people. The NGO in turn helped the family of the victim to lodge an FIR with the Purakhasia Police.
Acting on the FIR, police arrested Dey.
Meanwhile, the CMCA has condemned Dey for committing the crime.
The president of CMCA, Sanjing Sangma said “Dey has been detained by police and is presently behind bars. We are glad that we could help a poor family”.
