Agartala: Even as militancy is on the wane, insurgents are still active to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere prevailing in Tripura, said DGP Sanjay Sinha.
Inaugurating the new building of Telimura police station in Khowai district, the DGP said the state is yet to fully get rid of militancy though it has come down drastically. “They are sidelined due to proactive strategy by the security forces and support from the public. Militants are still active across the border. When ever they could cross the border, they success to create trouble”, he said.
Sinha, in his speech appreciated the role of CRPF, BSF, TSR, Assam Rifles and state police in containing militancy. Terming the programme as one of the memorable memories, the DGP said, “I was the then SDPO of undivided Khowai. Police had to work in adverse condition then. But on Tuesday, I find see change in the police in terms of facilities”.
According to intelligence inputs, the outlawed National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) has been running few hideouts in Bangladesh. The militant camps are mostly located in Chittgong Hill Track (CHT) of Bangladesh.
The DGP rejected the allegation of partisan attitude of the state police. “In Tripura, the incident of human right violation is rare in comparison to other states. In spite of this, police should be remained vigilant to avoid such kind of incident or allegation”, he said.
Earlier, former MLA Ashok Baidya said there are allegations police refuse to register complaint in some cases. “Police must look at the allegation”, he said.
