Book release

North East Career Handbook, published by Eastern Book House (EBH), was unveiled in the city on Thursday with the first copy being presented to Governor RS Mooshahary. In the first year of its launch, the North East Career Yearbook 2012 already got nominated for the India Education Award 2012, Delhi.

Birth anniv

The Sree Narayan Guru Cultural Centre is celebrating the birth anniversary of Sree Narayan Guru on September 2 at Anton Hall, Laitumkhrah from 10am onwards. Governor RS Mooshahary will grace the occasion as the chief guest.

Handwriting

The Write Right Foundation-India, the pioneers and the only organization of its kind in the country imparting the science and art of handwriting technology, recently launched Handwriting Olympiad for school students of Meghalaya.

FKJGP meet

The FKJGP central body will elect new office bearers on September 5 at the Khasi National Dorbar Hall.

Nutrition Week

The Food & Nutrition Board under the Ministry of Women & Child Development, Govt. of India, Shillong will celebrate the National Nutrition Week from September 1-7. In this connection, a workshop will be organised at Don Bosco Youth Centre, Shillong on September 3. Besides, various programmes like recipe competition, skit, painting competition will be held at different venues in Jaintia Hills District.

Debate contest

Women’s College, Shillong will organize the 8th Mrs. Fatima I. Hussain Memorial Inter-College Debate Competition on Saturday at 1 pm. The motion of the debate will be ‘Coalition Politics has retarded development in Meghalaya’. Professor Abhijit Chowdhury, Former Head, Dept. of History, St. Edmund’s College, Shillong will preside over the debate.

Freshers’ meet

The Hmar Students’ Association (HSA), Joint Headquarters, Shillong will be holding its 55th Freshers’ meet-cum-annual conference 2012 on September 1 at the Don Bosco Technical Hall, Shillong, Meghalaya.

Excise raid

The Excise staff of East Khasi Hills district conducted raids in restaurants and stalls in town in June and July and registered 93 cases with a seizure of 170 litres of liquor and 23 litres IMFL.Ninety three persons were arrested under the Excise Act.

GSU committee

The Garo Students Union, GSU East Zone, elected new office-bearers with Rakthe R Marak as president and Rocky Feller M Sangma as general secretary.
