SHILLONG: After a local court rejected his bail application, the chairman of proscribed GNLA Champion R Sangma is now contemplating to submit a fresh bail application.

Indicating this here on Tuesday, Champion’s lawyer Sujit Dey said, “I am exploring the possibilities of moving a fresh bail application in the next few days”.

The local court on Monday refused to grant bail to Champion on the ground that he was likely to commit offence if freed on bail.

“The charges leveled against the accused are very serious in nature,” the court further observed.

The court, however, permitted his counsel to meet him at the special cell of the Shillong district jail, where he is presently lodged.

The public prosecutor while opposing the bail application had argued that Champion’s release is a serious threat to the society at large. The Court on Friday last remanded Champion to another 14-day judicial custody.

The former cop-turned-rogue was arrested on July 30.
