IMPHAL: With an aim to focus on taking advantages of the presence of reputed buyers for exploring the possibility of export of handloom products of Manipur, the 3rd Buyer-Seller Meet-Cum Exhibition 2012 was kicked off on Saturday at the Manipur Film Development Corporation (MFDC) Auditorium, Palace Gate in Imphal.
The two-day buyer-seller meet cum exhibition was inaugurated by the state Commerce and Industries Minister Govindas Konthoujam as chief guest and Kiran Dhingra, IAS, Secretary, Textiles, Government of India and Monika S Garg, IAS, Development Commissioner for handlooms, Ministry of textiles, Government of India as special guest respectively.O Nabakishore, IAS, Principal Secretary, Commerce and industries, Government of Manipur coordinated the meet.
The programme sponsored under the Integrated Handloom Development Scheme by Development Commissioner for handlooms, Ministry of textiles, Government of India with Department of Commerce and industries, Government of Manipur.
On the day two of the event, a handloom exhibition will be held at the venue which will be inaugurated by minister Govindas.
Giving keynote address of the two-day long event, Lemlee kamei, Deputy Director.
Commerce and Industries, Manipur said the 1st Buyer-Seller Meet was held on April 9, 2010 and the 2nd BS meet on June 23, 2011.
He expressed grateful to the Deputy Commissioner (Handlooms) and the state Government, that is, the Commerce aned Industries minister and also the Principal Secretary for extending such assistence.
He said that on behalf of the Department and organising agencies he would like to invite all in the meet to focus on taking advantages of the presence of reputed buyers for exploring the possibility of export of handloom products of manipur.
A fashion show exclusively on local products to showcase the beauty of the state handlooms and extend all cooperation for promoting handloom industry in the state was also organized. (NNN)
