SHILLONG: The UDP Central Executive Committee (CEC) meeting, scheduled for Wednesday, is expected to witness a heated debate on the issue of withdrawing support to the Congress-led MUA Government.
In fact, pressure is mounting on the UDP leadership to withdraw support from the Government in view of the alleged nexus between Congress and the Garo rebel outfit GNLA.
Even as several senior UDP leaders are not happy with the attitude of Congress, which is reportedly overlooking the party while taking major decisions.
Informed sources on Tuesday said the party leaders were upset with the Government as the UDP was kept in the dark while relaxing the Executive Order (EO) relating to transfer of land to non-tribal entities.
The state government in its order dated 24th August 2012 relaxed the executive order dated 30th March, 2011.
The order kept education out from the purview of the executive order to facilitate private universities to buy land to set up their campus in the State.
“We are likely to discuss the issue of withdrawing of support from the Government in tomorrow’s meeting,” UDP working president Paul Lyngdoh told reporters here on Tuesday.
“The party has been kept in the dark by the Government while taking some important decisions,” he admitted.
Meanwhile, he informed that the party CEC would discuss the issue of the alleged nexus of the Congress with the GNLA besides the problem of insurgency in the State especially in Garo Hills.
Lyngdoh also said that the party is seriously concerned over the reported attempt of the State Government to execute as many as 17 powers projects months ahead of the Assembly election.
“Similar attempt was made in 2007. We had strongly opposed that move of the previous Congress-led MDA Government. We would not like to see another ‘shady’ power deal in the State,” the UDP working president said.
According to Lyngdoh, they would also discuss the issue concerning the Education department especially on the RTE Rules which would be implemented in the State.
Meanwhile, he said the party would also discuss the issue of having a pre-poll alliance with the non-Congress forces.
“We are expected to discuss the offer made by NPP chief Purno A Sangma to have a pre-poll alliance,” the UDP working president indicated.
