SHILLONG: Sohiong legislator HDR Lyngdoh received a shot in the arm after UDP youth wing members of the constituency and NCP Sohiong Block president Justice Wanniang joined the Congress party on Friday.
A formal reception to welcome the UDP youth members and the NCP Block president was held at Sohiong on Friday in the presence of the Sohiong legislator and East Khasi Hills district congress committee general secretary SG Khongiong.
Delighted by the development, Lyngdoh said, “This clearly shows that everyone is keen to be associated with the Congress party. I hope this would brighten up the chance of the Congress retaining the Sohiong seat,” Lyngdoh said.
Richard M Umlong of the UDP Sohiong youth wing said they have merged with the Congress since they are disappointed with the UDP leadership.
He also said that the party leadership has gone ahead with the decision of putting up a common candidate in association with other political parties without consulting the party members at the grassroots level.
