NONGPOH: Local residents of Kyrdem area are irked with the irregular supply of electricity and termed that the service provider of the MeECL department of Umiam had failed to render satisfactory service to the electricity consumers.
Taking up the issue, the KSU, Eastern Border unit on Monday meet H Shangpliang, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MeECL, Umiam Division.
The KSU highlighted the problems faced by locals due to the irregular power supply and revealed that school children, who are preparing for their final examinations, are the worst hit.
Shangpliang clarified that the MeCEL was facing shortage of man power and it would be hard for them to immediately address the problem.
The MeECL CEO also dismissed claims by the KSU members that the main problem was the absence of ‘breaker’ and the MeCEL was using only ‘drop out fuse’ to supply electricity. He explained that the irregularity in power supply was due to the monsoon and also due to falling of electricity barrels.
Shangpliang also informed that MeCEL was using the ‘drop out fuse’ (flip-open cutout fuse) due to the damage of the ‘breaker’ (safety component) which would be installed at the 33KV Sub Station, Bhoirymbong very soon after repairs.
The KSU also urged the department to open a bill collection centre at Bhoirymbong so that the public do not have to travel far to pay their power bills.
