HANM 12-hr bandh today

SHILLONG: Apart from daily wage earners, candidates appearing for the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examination would be affected during the 12-hour bandh called by Hynniewtrep Achik National Movement (HANM) on Tuesday.
“A paper on Political Science and International Relations along with Public Administration paper is scheduled for Tuesday and the bandh is likely to have an impact on the candidates,” said East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Sanjay Goyal.
The HANM has called a dawn-to-dusk bandh protesting arrested of its Western Ri-Bhoi Zone president, K Thongni. Thongni was arrested by Assam Police last month for his alleged involvement in the torching of an Assam Police outpost along the Assam-Meghalaya border.
Meanwhile, the state government has arranged for transportation of all its employees and asked them to attend work for the smooth functioning of the offices.
The government has arranged for buses from Laban, Rynjah, Nongmynsong, Mawlai petrol pump, Mawprem and 7th mile, Upper Shillong.
The Deputy Commissioner also informed that magistrates will be deployed in different sectors to ensure that law and order was maintained.
