Creating awareness on voting right through painting

SHILLONG: When the Election Commission of India is using mass media to create awareness among young people to enroll themselves in electoral rolls, the East Khasi Hills district Administration in collaboration with the Riti Academy of Visual Arts on Saturday organized a wall painting competition with an aim to urge youths to enroll themselves in the electoral rolls.

Around 70 students from different schools were seen making paintings on the boundary wall of the State Central Library.

The chairman of Riti Academy of Visual Arts Rapheal Warjri while talking about the initiative said, “The wall painting assumes significance in view of the fact that the State Assembly elections will take place next year.”

“The idea behind the initiative is to motivate the youths above 18 years of age to enroll themselves in the electoral roll and exercise their voting right in the forthcoming Assembly Election,” he said. The initiative will continue on Monday. Student from various colleges will replace the school students in the endevour.
