Who says international music con
certs draw the young alone? Renowned Spanish singer Enrique Iglesias’ performance here drew a significant chunk of middle-aged men and women who swayed and sang to his hit numbers.
The singer, who is on a tri-city tour of India, sang, danced, and jumped with the crowd of thousands of people at the HUDA Grounds here Friday night.
Mamta Aggarwal from Kolkata, had especially flown down to witness Enrique live in concert. It was hard to imagine her, a typical sari-clad Indian housewife, to know the discography of the singer, but she turned out to be a surprise encyclopedia on him.
“I never used to listen to English songs, but my daughter is a huge Enrique fan and she keeps listening to his songs. Thanks to her, I also developed a liking for him. I enjoy listening to most of his songs,” Aggarwal told IANS.
“When my daughter came to know that Enrique is coming to Delhi, she was quite excited and wanted to attend his concert, so we flew down from Kolkata just to see him perform. He is a superb performer. I really enjoyed the entire concert,” she added.
Another woman, Monica Kumar, seemingly in her 50s, revealed she is a huge fan of Enrique’s father Julio Iglesias, and so she took a liking to the son’s work too.
“I’ve been a fan of Enrique’s father since long. So eventually, I have developed a liking for him too. He is a superb singer and a fantastic performer. I really like the latino beats in his songs and ‘Bailamos’ is my favourites among all his songs,” she said.
The singer set the stage on fire as he crooned his popular numbers like Tonight I’m lovin’ you, Rhythm divine, Bailamos, Escape, Tired of being sorry, Just wanna be with you, Baby I like it , I like how it feels and Hero.
As much as the youngsters were enjoying hooting, singing and grooving to his tunes, so were the middle-aged members of the audience.
Sanjeev Kumar, a businessman, says it’s hard to restrict himself from listening to Enrique’s songs.
“I have been listening to Enrique for long and I like all of his songs. He does not belong to our generation, but he has some kind of an attraction that just can’t stop you from listening to him,” he said.
Dushyant, another businessman, finds Enrique’s songs quite catchy. “We have been listening to him since long. He’s an excellent singer and his songs are very catchy,” said Dushyant. (IANS)
