Agartala: Delhi and Tripura police have launched a joint investigation into the reported hoax call to IndiGo airlines customer care threatening to shoot down the flights today from anywhere in the country.
According to the report, the airlines had received a phone call yesterday with the caller identifying himself as the son of slain al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden and threatening that they would destroy the flights of the airlines, which will fly at low height today.
With complaints from IndiGo authority, Delhi police launched the investigation and found that the phone number from which the call was made was issued in the name of one Rabi Majumder of Tebaria village under P R Bari police station of South Tripura.
Accordingly, Superintendent of Police (South) Shankar Debnath detained Rabi Majumder, a vegetable vendor on the allegation of his involvement in making the hoax call but he was released later at night.
“During interrogation it was revealed that Rabi is an innocent rustic citizen and managing life in vegetable vending in the nearby area and he has never used cell phone; however, we are investigating that someone else might use his documents to procure the SIM card,” said Mr Debnath.
In the meantime, Airport Authority of India officials here today stated that with the call, security in all the airports and terminal buildings had been enhanced and a special security had been made at the time of landing and take off. (UNI)
