Cong seeks West Bengal like polls in Tripura

 Agartala: The Election Commission has said it would send a team to poll bound Tripura in order to verify allegations in respect to the revision of electoral rolls.

The assurance came when a four-member team of Congress headed by party general secretary Luizinho Faleiro met the full-bench of Election Commission in Delhi on Thursday with a bunch of manipulation bids in the revision of electoral rolls.

During the 40-minute discussion, Congress leaders placed several manipulation attempts of 27 Assembly constituencies. The manipulation attempts include forged names, twin I-card of a single voters, one voter’s name in two constituencies and unrealistic conditions for Congress minded new voters for inclusion names in the electoral rolls. Congress delegation also made the EC aware about the role of several number of BLOs who are allegedly working at the behest of the ruling party.

Seeking West Bengal like election in Tripura, Congress delegation requested EC to ensure error free electoral rolls. When contacted, Pradesh Youth Congress president Sushanta Chowdhury who was part of the delegation told the EC has convinced with the statement of the Congress delegation.

“They even asked why we could not bring irregularities in the electoral rolls for the 60 Assembly constituencies”, he said.

The Congress move assumes significance keeping in mind of the ongoing exercise of rolls revision. According to revision schedule, the hearing on claims and objections will begin from tomorrow while disposal will be made on December 1. Updating of database, merging of photographs, updating of control tables and preparation and printing of supplementary list will be done in between December 1 and 31. The final electoral rolls will be published on January 5, 2013 to pave the way for holding 2013 Assembly election.
