Advocate held in car lifting case

SHILLONG: Acting on the request from Shillong Police, Assam Police on Saturday arrested one Tariqul Islam, an advocate by profession, for allegedly assisting a gang of car lifters arrested from Shillong on Friday.

According to M Kharkrang, SP, East Khasi Hills, the arrested advocate was being brought to Shillong.

It may be mentioned that the state police on Friday arrested six persons including four from Assam in connection with a car theft case in Upper Shillong.

The police recovered one white Bolero (AS01 AV 5117) and one Maruti Wagon R (ML05 F 7584), which belonged to one Rasalli, an employee of Rani Motors. The court granted 10-day police custody to seven car lifters including the lawyer.
