SHILLONG: The last session of the present Meghalaya Legislative Assembly will be held from December 11.
An official source said the three- day winter session of the Assembly will be held on December 11, 13 and 14. December 12 is excluded as it is a state holiday on account of the death anniversary of Pa Togan Sangma.
The Business Advisory Committee would meet on Monday to discuss the allocation of time during the session, the source added.
Though this will be the farewell session of the 8th Assembly before the State goes to the polls in the early part of 2013, the session is likely to stormy one as the Opposition is poised to raise various issues including anomalies in appointment of assistant teachers in government lower primary schools and the recent CBI findings.
Law and order problem in Garo Hills and worsening road conditions in several parts of the State will also come up for discussion. Moreover, the Assembly Speaker may also give his verdict on the ‘defection’ of majority of the NCP legislators to the National People’s Party (NPP) during the session. Though the total strength of the House is 60, the effective strength currently is 58 as PA Sangma has relinquished Tura seat and Chokpot seat is also vacant due to the untimely demise of MM Sangma.
