SHILLONG: Gene Campaign, a Delhi-based institution headed by renowned scientist Dr Suman Sahai, in collaboration with Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU), Shillong is organising a one-day public consultation on training materials related to ‘Impact of Climate Change’, on November 9 at the MLCU main campus (Opposite Soso Tham Auditorium) at 10am.

The seminar assumes significance in the light of the fact that the North Eastern Region, including Meghalaya, has been experiencing unpredictable weather conditions such as delayed rainfall, rise in temperatures and as a consequence a change in the nature of vegetation. Some crops can no longer be cultivated while other newer varieties are doing well.

To understand all this and more, Dr Sahai, who has contributed extensively to genetic literacy and the conservation of biodiversity, will present the training materials developed by her organisation.

Gene Campaign, which was founded by Dr Sahai in 1993, is working in 17 states in the country.

Dr Sahai is of the opinion that climate change affects every living creature of which human beings are one and that it is incumbent for all to understand better adaptation methods to mitigate the harsh impacts of climate change.
