Steps to be undertaken to improve Jaintia Hills education scenario

 JOWAI: Taking note that Jaintia Hills is still lacking behind in term of Education and Educational infrastructures, the state government has decided to take necessary steps to improve the same by setting up Residential schools in each blocks in East and West Jaintia Hills District and a Rural Hostel besides setting up of a B.Ed College.

The B.Ed College building is now under construction at a total estimated cost of Rs. 3.5 crore. Education Minister, Prof RC Laloo laid down the foundation stone for the construction of the college building here last Friday.

PWD Secretary, SB Chyrmang informed that his Department has already issued the final work order to the contractor and the construction will be completed within two years.

Various NGOs in the past have strongly demanded the setting up the college. The college will serve the purpose of training graduates who wish to become qualified teachers.

Prof RC Laloo mentioned, “The Government has sanctioned Rs. 1 crore for setting up a hostel for Rural Students in Jowai- the District head-quarter and another Rs. 1 crore for setting up a school of Pine Mount standard at Wahiajer, village.”

“Five Residential Schools, one in each block in East and West Jaintia Hills District will be also set up at an approximate cost of Rs 15 crores”, he added.
