SHILLONG: Named in the CBI report dealing with irregularities in the appointment of candidates for the post of assistant teachers, Forest and Environment Minister Prestone Tynsong on Thursday clarified that his responsibility as a legislator compelled him to recommend the poor candidates from rural areas for appointment to the post of assistant teachers in government funded lower primary schools.
“The recommendations I had made was only to help the rural candidates clear the personal interview. Such candidates cannot compete with their counterparts from the urban areas when it comes to personal interview since they do not have the command over English,” Tynsong said while speaking as the chief guest during a function to celebrate 25 years of completion of Kirsty Youth Welfare Organisation at Nongkrem.
The Minister added that he does not feel there is anything wrong in making such recommendations.
Besides Tynsong, other Ministers and MLAs including Urban Affairs Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh have been named in the CBI report for recommending candidates for appointment as assistant teachers.
Majority of the Ministers and MLAs had in fact admitted that they have recommended the candidates while denying putting any pressure for the same.
