SHILLONG: The ANVC (B) on Saturday justified the attack on MPCC working president Deborah Marak by saying that the politicians should first work for uplifting Garo Hills throughout their tenure instead of projecting themselves during the elections.

“There is much more that the people need to understand about attack on our leaders. My order was to encourage leaders who are keen to take up Garo issue and work for the upliftment of the area and the people, instead of allowing politicians who only focus in being voted and be a dummy to the high commands of the party for next five years”, the ANVC (B) Chairman Rimpu Marak said in a statement issued here on Saturday.

According to Marak, his order is applicable to every politician and not limited only to Deborah. “It was just that she was unaware of our statements and warnings”, Marak added.

The ANVC (B) chief said that the militant outfit is proud of its cadres who dared to enter the town in spite of tight security and police vigil. “We are moved by the determination of our cadres in following orders and completing the mission”, he added.

The ANVC (B) leader further said that in the past, the outfit shared information about the arms and ammunition smuggling among others in the interest of the State but “the State is not concerned about us which leaves certain loose ends in our understanding with the Government “
