TURA: The Western Zone (South) unit of the GSU has threatened to call for an indefinite agitation against the government alleging that one Hindi teacher of Boldamgre Upper Primary School in South West Garo Hills had been illegally appointed by the authorities of the Education department.

In a press note issued to The Shillong Times here, the president of the GSU, Western Zone (South), Ampati alleged that out of seven candidates who had appeared for the interview for the post of Hindi teacher in the aforementioned school, none were appointed, but instead, one Biplop Brahma who had neither submitted his application nor sat for the interview was appointed for the post.

The Union further alleged that the appointed teacher has actually submitted fake documents.

The Union stated that they had submitted a representation to the government demanding that the appointment be verified in the interest of justice, and for the benefit of the common people, but the government had failed to redress their grievances.

They also alleged that three officers of the Education department, namely P.K. Hajong, the then District Education Officer, N. Bhowmick, then Sub-Divisional Education Officer and the Additional Director of Education and Literacy, were involved in manipulating the appointment process after receiving bribes from the appointed teacher.

Stating that they have completely lost their faith in the government, the Union informed that they were left with no other option but to call for an indefinite agitation against the government for its failure to take action on the matter.
