SHILLONG: The State Government is now contemplating to launch the much talked Megha Health Insurance Scheme within the next ten days.
Under the scheme, the Government plans to provide health insurance to approximately five lakh people in the state.
Commissioner and Secretary of the Health and Family Welfare, DP Wahlang said on Sunday, “The scheme is valid for all citizens of the State.” Earlier, the Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY) was meant only for the BPL families but now the Government has come up with the scheme which is for all citizens. “We will start the enrollment process soon for the insurance scheme,” he added. Earlier, under the RSBY scheme, a beneficiary had to pay Rs 30 for a coverage amount of Rs 30,000.
Under the new universal health insurance scheme, a citizen will have to pay an amount of Rs 31 and he will be given a health coverage upto Rs 1,60,000 which was not the case under RSBY.
As per Government, per card, five member of a family are eligible for availing the scheme after enrollment.
The official also said that any citizen of the State who wants to be enrolled must bring a certificate which has an address and it is valid for all citizens of the State.
People who have MGNREGS cards, BPL enrollment and voter ID proof can also apply, he added.
The scheme, however, is not applicable for State and Central Government employees.
