Agartala: In what seems to be a major blow to the Congress party before the assembly elections , the General secretary of the Tripura Congress Party Pradyot Bikram Kishore has resigned from his post. The reasons
behind his resignation remain a mystery but sources close to him have said that he was unhappy with the developments within the Congress Party and the state leadership at large.
It is said that his resignation from the post will send conflicting signals to the party workers especially in the rural belt where he is considered the biggest draw amongst the tribal votes.
Congress and its ally INPT have been struggling to regain its lost ground from the CPM for a long time and this move may be the final nail in the hopes of the congress led alliance coming to power.
Pradyot Bikram Kishore ‘who is also the head of the royal house of Tripura’ has been extremely active in the tribal belt and has been instrumental in rebuilding the congress organisation in recent years,
it maybe mentioned that both his parents Maharaja Kirit Bikram and Bibhu Kumara Devi were Loksabha members of the parliament and extremely influential leaders in the state.
But recently he had indicated that certain syndicate’s have been actively trying to frustrate him and prevent the Tribal face within the party from rising to a prominent place.
On previous occasions he has openly criticized the lack of transparency within the leadership and the parties stand on various contentious issues such as illegal migration, Afspa and the Tribal and forest bills act, something the State Congress is yet to come clear on their opinion on.
His close relationship with the INPT has also ensured that some of the senior party leadership has been reluctant watchers at his sudden rise. Reacting to his resignation several leaders from INPT and Congress have expressed shock and Dismay, however the Congress president Sudip Roy Barman has yet to comment on the subject.
It remains to be seen what this impact will have for the congress party before the election but one thing is for sure ,the departure of the biggest Tribal face from the Congress party will definitely have
its dent in the state.
