SHILLONG: Governor RS Mooshahary on Monday stated that over-ornamentation and imitation of western designs would demean the Indian heritage and can be bizarre and ungracious.
“Fashion is synonymous with glamour, beauty and elegant. So it is the job of a fashion designer to create something elegant and appealing to the eye and the heart and not to create a doll out of a woman,” the Governor said.
Mooshahary was addressing the 1st convocation of the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) at the Convention hall, NEHU Campus here on Monday.
Stating that fashion is a diverse subject, Mooshahary said fashion designing can bring total creativity in a person’s mind and the people involved in the making of fashion should inculcate essential factors which includes proportion, simplicity, style and spontaneity which formed the base of elegance.
Further elaborating on fashion, the Governor said fashion alone cannot make a difference; style goes alongside fashion as the combination of both can create something beautiful and attractive.
“Fashion fades but style is immortal; fashion is extensive bit style is intensive. One cannot design style, it can be cultivated,” Mooshahary said.
While encouraging the new graduates to pursue their career in the best possible ways, the Governor said, “You should be able to bring fame and change through your hard work.”
Earlier, Minister in charge of Forest, Prestone Tynsong, lamented over the increasing cases of brain drain where youth pursuing their career in different professions often leave the State to work in other parts of the country.
“The State has lots of talents, however, most of the youth do not prefer to serve their own State leading to brain drain,” Tynsong said while urging the youth to serve their State for better development.
Awards for best academic performances were handed over to two students who excelled in the 4-year course.
