SHILLONG: The UDP has decided to issue a show cause notice to its general secretary SD Khongwir for his decision to support Congress sitting legislator Founder S Cajee instead of party nominee Embhah Syiemlieh in the upcoming Assembly election from Mawlai constituency.

“We would be issuing a show cause notice to Khongwir seeking his reply as to why disciplinary action should not be taken against him,” UDP working president Paul Lyngdoh said on Sunday.

Khongwir, a former legislator from Mawlai, had publicly announced his support to the sitting Congress MLA Founder Strong Cajee.

Khongwir had also supported Cajee during the 2008 Assembly poll at the behest of party nominee PT Sawkmie who was the then sitting legislator.

“It is unfortunate that the senior leader is indulging in this kind of anti-party activity especially when he is enjoying office in the Government as a political appointee by virtue of being a UDP member,” Lyngdoh said, while adding, “I am also of the view that it is not right on the part of a senior leader like him to base his stand on individual persona rather than respecting the collective decision of the party.”

Meanwhile, majority of the UDP supporters in Mawlai have stated that Khongwir’s stand against his own party candidate (Syiemlieh) is not a shocking development for the people of the constituency, as according to them, the former MLA has always been moving around Cajee.
