EC team to visit state on January 7

SHILLONG: A delegation of the Election Commission of India (ECI) is expected to arrive here on January 7 to review the state’s preparedness for the upcoming Assembly elections.

The delegation, to be led by Chief Election Commissioner VS Sampath, is scheduled to meet senior government officials including the state Chief Secretary WMS Pariat and DGP Kulbir Krishan.

Sampath would be accompanied by the two Election Commissioners Dr Syed Nasim Ahmad Zaidi and HS Brahma.

Official sources on Monday informed that the delegation would also review the law and order situation in the state especially in Garo Hills.

According to official sources, the delegation would also be meeting the leaders of various political parties.
