Jenniefer Dkhar pays tribute to Jaintia hero Kiang Nangbah on his 150th death anniversary

 He lived for his people!

Fought for their emancipation!

Embraced death than let his land die.

On 30th December we honour him

We commemorate his death anniversary.

Homage we pay on this day

While the year through his memories fade away

Alas! In name today he dwells!

His heroic deeds seldom emulated

They are but stories of the past.

Leaders galore we have today

With credibility that shames the light of day.

Accumulation of unhealthy wealth

Is all they sought and greatly felt

A pledge they make no less than a farce

Of honesty and sincerity never to last

What will become of our tomorrow?

When today we live in dread and fear?

No leader today will replicate Woh Kiang’s heroism

Idealise his people and honour his land?

Thus with sadness galore with shame I say:

A mere name in the calendar each year he runs

A mere holiday enjoyed with lots of fun.

This truly pains and stings my heart!
