SHILLONG: The Qualified Grade IV Association-2011, East Khasi Hills, has decided to temporarily postpone its agitation after receiving an assurance that there would no fresh advertisements until the election process in the State is over.

The Association took this decision on Wednesday following their meeting with East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Sanjay Goyal who is also the Chairman of the District Selection Committee (DSC).

“We have decided to temporarily postpone our agitation after being satisfied with the assurance given by the Deputy Commissioner,” association president Arthur B Kurbah said after the meeting.

“The Deputy Commissioner has also assured that he would try to help the association in whatever way he can. He (Goyal) also assured he would try to fix a meeting of the association with Chief Secretary WMS Pariat,” Kurbah said. Kurbah also said that they have realized that it would be futile to continue with the agitation since the Government at present is not in a position to take a decision on extension of the merit list.

“We would follow up on our demand with the new Government,” he said while adding that they would try to find out other ways and means to make their cause stronger.

Meanwhile, Goyal also admitted that the DSC would not issue any fresh advertisement at the moment.

“As far as extension of the merit list is concerned I have no authority to take a call on this. The final call would have to be taken by the Government. It would depend on the new Government whether to consider the case of the DSC Grade IV qualified candidates,” Goyal said.

While expressing his sympathy with the qualified candidates, he said that he fully understood the sufferings of the qualified candidates.

CSWO seeks Chief Secretary’s intervention

The CSWO (Agnes) on Wednesday sought the immediate intervention of Chief Secretary WMS Pariat into the DSC case asking him to cancel and terminate all ad hoc and back-door appointees and immediately issue notices to all officers serving as public servants in the various departments of the State Government to immediately terminate all such appointees.

CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing said there was a need to adhere to the service rules and proper procedures laid down by the Government and also to inform the DSC when there are any vacant posts as is laid down in the rules.

“Extension for six months should also be granted to the affected DSC passed candidates and the Government should immediately appoint them in the various posts in the government or corporations that have been lying vacant and have been illegally filled up,” Kharshiing suggested.

Learning that the validity of the DSC passed candidates has lapsed, Kharshiing blamed the various government officials for abusing their powers and appointing either their kith and kin or those who paid bribes, and appointing them illegally in various departments in the State instead of intimating the DSC to enroll the qualified candidates.
