SHILLONG: The arrested GNLA men had plans to recruit youths from the border areas of Khasi Hills for the organization, police revealed on Monday. Among the four arrested GNLA over ground workers on Sunday, Vincent T Sangma (20) of Weikut, South West Khasi Hills, has been camping in Shillong with an intention to recruit boys from the border areas at an appropriate time, additional SP (Crime), Vivek Syiem said on Monday. Vincent, who was staying in a rented accommodation in Mawpun, Golf links, was undergoing computer studies in a city-based institution. Vincent was also operating high-tech equipments including laptops which were seized by police on Sunday. Another plan of GNLA men was to carry out extortion in the coal belts of the State. “They found Shillong to be a safe hide out to carry on with their nefarious activities”, Syiem added.

Hut for drugs suppliers

Syiem said with an upward trend in the circulation of drugs in parts of Shillong, police are on a hunt to get the main suppliers of various narcotics. On Sunday, police arrested five drug peddlers including two women and seized 69.86 grams of heroin worth several lakhs of rupees.
