SHILLONG: The Congress candidate from South Shillong constituency , Manas Chaudhuri denied reports of violation of model code of conduct as alleged by one Council for protection by Civil Rights.

In a statement issued here on Monday , Chaudhuri , who is the sitting legislator from Mawprem, said that the organization made an irresponsible allegation on January 21 in a section of the press.

“The allegation purportedly made by a bogus organisation is false, malicious and politically motivated”, Chaudhuri said.

Denying the charge levelled against him, Chaudhuri challenged anybody to prove him wrong.

“In the first place, I have not allotted any work in Barapathar as alleged by the fictitious organisation called Council for protection by Civil Rights and I understand that a particular work in Jhalupara, allotted by me on September 15 last and initiated by the beneficiary on October 4th ,was under slight repair on January 20”, Chaudhuri said .

According to Chaudhuri , it is obvious that this particular work does not attract the provisions of the election code of conduct.

He also urged the Election Commission to take exemplary legal action against the organization for publishing unsubstantiated and unverified allegations against him.

“This would be a deterrent against tarnishing the image of any candidate contesting election by any politically interested party”, Chaudhuri added.
