SHILLONG: Congress nominee for Nongkrem constituency Lambor Malngiang has announced that he would not take part in any electoral battle in future if he fails to win in February 23 polls.

“This would be the last time I am going to contest if I am defeated,” Malngiang, who is also sitting Congress MDC from Nongkrem, said while speaking at a meeting organized to welcome around 150 UDP youth wing members from Madanriting to the Congress fold on Monday.

While stating that his main objective has always been to work for poor and downtrodden and to bring development in the constituency, he said that these noble objectives of his would have no meaning if the people reject him.

“Even after being defeated in the 2008 Assembly election, I continued to work for the development of the constituency as the MDC. But I would not have the same enthusiasm and motivation to work for the betterment of the constituency if I am defeated again in the ensuing Assembly election,” Malngiang said.

Meanwhile, East Khasi Hills District Congress Committee (EKDCC) general secretary SG Khongiong said that the only party which can provide a stable Government in the State is the Congress. While lambasting the regional parties for criticizing the party only in the election, he said that they have no right to criticize the Congress alone since they are all part and parcel of the Government.

“Whether it is UDP or HSPDP, take my word all of them would come to request the Congress to allow them to join the Government after the election.,” Khongiong said.
