JOWAI: Independent candidate from Sutnga-Saipung constituency, Hopeful Bamon, on Monday claimed that backwardness of the constituency was the prime reason for his decision to contest in the upcoming Assembly election in the State.
Addressing a public rally at Sutnga village, Bamon said that the constituency needed proper roads, better health care services and adequate water supply which were lacking in the constituency.
“If I am elected, I would ensure that road communications, water supply and health services get the top priority in my agenda,” Bamon said.
Speaking at the rally, acting Pator of Sumer Patorship, Absalom Latam, stated that his area has been neglected for the last ten years.
“There is a school in my village which is in need of repair and upgradation in order to accommodate the increasing numbers of students. We had approached our MLA several times and submitted several memoranda on his advice yet we never received any financial assistance,” Latam said, adding that the pathetic road condition in the area has also affected the social and economical uplift of the villagers.
Former MDC of Saipung, TK Darnei, while highlighting the neglect of the Biate community residing in the area, said, “The C&RD Block Office and other departmental office were set up at Saipung by our former MLAs such as OL Chyrmang and OL Nongtdu but these departments have failed to function as expected.”
Among others who addressed the rally included Lumshnong Rangbah Shnong, Rangbahduh Khonglah and JHADC MDCs Seiborlang Chadap and Richard Sing Lyngdoh (both from the Congress).
The rally was attended by headmen of various villages under Sutnga-Saipung constituency and former MLA Oliverneat Chyrmang besides over four thousand people.
It may be mentioned here that Sutnga-Saipung constituency is expected to witness a triangular contest between sitting MLA Shitlang Pale (Congress), JHADC MDC MS Tyngkra (UDP) and Bamon (Independent).
