Nagaland poll review meeting with district administrations

Kohima: A meeting with Deputy Commissioners (DC), Superintendents of Police (SP) and officials of key departments was held at the Nagaland Civil Secretariat Conference Hall on Monday to review the preparations made throughout the state with regard to the forthcoming General Election slated for February 23.

According to official sources on Tuesday the meeting was held under the Chairmanship of Nagaland chief secretary Alemtemshi Jamir, who urged the DCs and SPs to have close co-ordination between their offices. He also appreciated the DCs and SPs for their preparations till date.

Nagaland Chief Electoral officer J. Alam has appreciated the DCs for undertaking the special summary revision of electoral rolls. He said the state is fortunate to have competent officers in the districts and expressed his optimism that the elections can be managed smoothly and efficiently.

He also placed on record his gratitude and appreciation for the co-operation from all the state government departments in connection with electoral preparations. He said conduct of elections is an effort of the entire government machinery and not just of Election Department. He also reminded the DCs that the resources of their respective districts are at their command and may be utilised where possible.

During the meeting, commissioner and secretary for Transport, Neihu C. Thur briefed about the vehicle requisitioning status. Regarding transportation it was decided that a state level committee would be constituted for better co-ordination.

The meeting was also attended by Additional Chief Secretary and Commissioner, Nagaland Banuo Z. Jamir, Additional Chief Secretary, Personal and Administrative Reform and Law and Justice C. J. Ponraj, Nagaland DGP, B. Kezo; Chief Electoral Officer, J. Alam, Home Commissioner Temjen Toy and other senior administrative heads of Departments. (UNI)
