Poll teams on toes for free, fair election in NGH

TURA: For the purpose of conducting Assembly election in the three constituencies of North Garo Hills district in a free and fair manner, assistant expenditure observers have been appointed to monitor the election expenditure by the candidates and various teams – video surveillance teams, video viewing team, flying squads and static surveillance teams have already been activated and are working round the clock to detect any distribution of cash, liquor, illegal distribution of gifts, etc.

This was informed here through a communiqué by Assistant Returning Officer & Officer in charge, Election Expenditure Monitoring Cell, North Garo Hills, AC Marak.

The District Election Office has appointed Branch Manager, UBI, Mendipathar, Maniram Swargiary, Branch Manager, SBI, Resubelpara, Basudeb Paul, and Branch Manager, SBI, Mendipathar, MC Lahkar, as assistant expenditure observers for 38-Mendipathar, 39-Resubelpara and 40-Bajengdoba constituencies respectively.

The district-level media certification & monitoring committee had also been constituted recently with the District Election Officer as the Chairman and EAC, Resubelpara, Superintendent of Police, Resubelpara and SDPRO, Resubelpara, as members to check any violation of the model code of conduct. The DEO has also appointed three accounting teams for each of the three Assembly segments to function under the assistant expenditure observers with the overall supervision of the election expenditure observer.

Meanwhile, all the contesting candidates or their authorized agents for the respective constituencies have been asked to submit their expenditure registers – first on February 13, then on February 18 and finally on February 21 at 3.00 pm – to their respective returning officers without fail.
