SHILLONG: Taking a dig at his opponent and UDP nominee Braston Kharphuli, Sohiong Congress candidate H Donkupar Roy Lyngdoh said that the people of the constituency should think properly before voting in favour of the UDP nominee who has joined the fray out of compulsion.

“I have been told that he (Kharphuli) claimed he had been convinced by the leaders of the four political parties (UDP, MDP, NPP and KHNAM) to join the fray. I do not think it is right to elect such a person who wants to represent the constituency at the behest of others,” Lyngdoh said while addressing an election rally at Rangshken near Sohiong here on Friday.

Sohiong Congress candidate said that the person who wanted to contest the election should have the conviction to contest on his own.

“I am not like the UDP nominee who had to depend on others to contest the election. The credibility and effectiveness of the person is highly questionable if he needs the support of others,” Lyngdoh said.

Meanwhile, he claimed that he (Kharphuli) has already accepted his defeat when he had an interaction with him during the scrutiny of the nomination papers.

“We were sitting in the same room during the scrutiny. I asked Kharpuli whether he would work or go against me after losing the election. The UDP nominee replied that he is going to work with me,” Lyngdoh said while adding that this is an indication of itself that he (Kharphuli) is admitting that he is losing the election.

He further said that it would be futile for the voters to elect the person who has already admitting its defeat.

While stating that the UDP nominee is putting a similarity to the contest in Sohiong constituency with that of ‘David and Goliath’, the Sohiong Congress candidate said that the interesting part he (Kharphuli) has projected himself to be David of this contest who needs only a stone to bring down Goliath.

“I want to ask the UDP nominee where in the Bible it was stated that David had contested in the election. The misuse of God words is blasphemy,” Lyngdoh said.
