Fire burns down 26 houses; none injured

Itanagar: At least 26 houses and some motor garages were gutted and property worth crores of rupees damaged during the past 72 hours in Arunachal’s East and West Siang districts.

A fire broke out at Puak Gumin area in West Siang district around Tuesday night, official sources said.

They said it was probably caused by blasting of LPG cylinders.

Besides eight houses, the blaze severely affected an RCC building and seven other dwelling units. Seventeen families had been affected in the accident.

However, no casualty was reported.

DC, West Siang, Marnya Ete and the SP had rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation.

The district administration had provided immediate relief to the victims and also constituted a standing board to finalise detail assessment report, sources added.

On Monday evening, 18 houses and many motor garages were gutted in a devastating fire in Pasighat in East Siang district.

Though the actual cause was not yet known, local sources said the fire broke out in a garage, spread rapidly to adjoining houses and engulfed the whole area, sources said.

Huge property, including a Marshal Jeep, a Tata Sumo and a Tata Mobile, parked inside the garages were reduced to ashes.

Local people started rescue operation and doused the leaping flames. Fire tenders from Pasighat also reached the spot and controlled the blaze.

Education Minister Bosiram Siram and Deputy Commissioner RK Mishra had rushed to the spot along with the officers. He handed over Rs 50,000 to the DC towards immediate relief. (UNI)
