Poll mania

With less than a week to go for the biggest extravaganza that usually repeats itself every five years, the city is in grip of poll fever. From salons to pan shops, vegetable markets to grocery stores, everywhere people seem to be in illusion owing to the pomp and gaiety of the existing state of affairs.

Amidst allegations and counter allegations, rhetoric and promises a galore, the citizenry relishes the unfolding drama sipping the evening cup of tea at the neighbourhood tea stalls as speculations on the leading candidates in respective constituencies become the order of the day.

These are moments of glory when one can proclaim self as a political pundit, a tag that every Indian would be proud of. But despite all the hullaballoo issues concerning the development of a constituency is usually the least desirable topic to come up for discussion.

Is it the lack of faith of the people on our leaders that is responsible for such apathy or is it the way of things here?

Whatever the answer may be, till February 23, which is the D-day, the city shall revel in the chaos as it sprints on a path where the journey is far exciting than the destination.
