Athelete Lyngkhoi roped in to create awareness

SHILLONG: With an aim to create awareness on the importance of ethical voting during the upcoming Assembly election in the State, the District Election Officer, South West Khasi Hills, Mawkyrwat along with local icon and international marathon runner Beningstar Lyngkhoi conducted a signature campaign on Monday.

The event also looked to encourage the public to exercise their right to vote on poll day.

The event which is part of the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) started from the Office of the District Election Officer, at Laitlawsang as the District Election Officer A Mawlong kicked off the campaign before proceeding towards Sngap Syiem College and then to the market place where a large number of people actively participated in it.

The participants jotted

down slogans pertaining to free and fair election besides putting their signatures on the frame.

During the event, Lyngkhoi also appealed to the public to come forward and exercise their franchise without any fear and influence.

“People should not to be misled money and liquor,” he added.

The District administration also extended its best wishes to Lyngkhoi for his participation in the upcoming Asian Marathon to be held in Hongkong, China on February 24.
